Colour for Life

“Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning, can speak to the Soul in a thousand different ways”
Oscar Wilde

Do you dream of living a different life, or simply improving on the life you are already living? The answer and the solution is quite simple – add a little colour to your life.

Colour is the language of our inner worlds; it communicates, silently yet powerfully, the desires and longings of the Soul.

Whether it’s the colours you choose to wear, decorate with or even the colours you choose for your screensaver, all silently, but ever so vocally, communicate your hopes and dreams, as well as the losses and stuck points too. These seemingly innocent shades and tones of colour reveal your life script and story so far.

Stop for a moment, take a look around you, what do you see?

Most people will list items, objects, maybe plants and maybe photos, few will notice the colours.

The first memory I have of seeing a rainbow is from when I was around 5 or 6 years old. It was shining boldly and brightly on my grandmother’s ceiling, created from glass beads on the windowsill in her sitting room. I was mesmerised, it captured my full attention, it was as though the colours were talking to me, each one telling a different story.

The glass beads were supposed to be for the little girl who lived next door. I took them home as requested… I carefully unstrung them and unknowingly knew how and when I could recreate not just one, but many rainbows, on my own ceiling. And that is how I started working with colour.

Of course, when you are so young you have no idea that you have literally had an encounter with your destiny and life vocation. But there it was, as bold and as colourful as a life filled with colour could be.

It was only in my early 20’s did it become an actual thing and has remained so for 35 years. The purpose is and has always been about helping people become more colour conscious, more aware of this amazing thing we are constantly surrounded with throughout our life. From beginning to end, colour is right there walking alongside you.

Einstein said that imagination is the preview of life’s forthcoming attractions, what if we included colour in this thought too?

Try this, make a note of all your different colour choices throughout your life. These include colour choices for clothing and décor, maybe you associate particular jobs or relationships with certain colours too. Then plot this onto a timeline and make a note of the various events that have happened in your life so far. What you will notice is that your colour story is always one or two steps ahead of actual life events. It’s preparing you for your next forthcoming attraction!

Colour is so flirtatious, especially when it has something to tell you.

We have our normal set of preferred colours, and then suddenly one day a new colour seems to grab your attention, it’s like you start seeing it everywhere. Some people even describe it as a craving for the new colour, or as one lady announced to me a few years ago “I feel as consumed and as overwhelmed by this blue as I did when I first lay eyes on my husband”

Again, stop for a moment, take a look around you, what colour is trying to get your attention right now? Imagine, again just for a moment, what this colour would say to you, what message is it wanting to deliver specifically and personally to you, no one else, just you?

Colour is an amazing storyteller if we would but listen and take notice of what it is trying to tell us.

Beyond these everyday subtle, yet incredibly powerful, influences of colour, there’s an even deeper side to it which when understood can help you to know yourself better and make sense of why you act the way you do. It is what makes you, you and me, me, and it’s all connected with your Life Path Colour.

A Life Path Colour is the foundation and essence of who you are, it could be described as a basic blueprint of who you were born to be. I like to think of it as a guide and reference point to help me navigate my way through life. An acorn will always be an oak tree, so why force yourself to be Blue when you are born to be Red.

“You either walk inside your story and own it,
Or you stand outside your story and hustle for your worthiness”

Brené Brown

Your Life Path Colour is derived from your Date of Birth and is calculated in the following way:

12-4-1964 (always include the full year, not 12-4-64)

1 + 2 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 4 = 27

Keep on adding your birthday numbers together until you end up with a single digit between 1 and 9.

27 = 2+7 = 9

Each of the nine numbers relates to a colour and each colour has its own character traits:

1 = Red – Adventurer, Energetic, Rebel

2 = Orange – Empathic, Fun loving, Self-assured

3 = Yellow – Confident, Inquisitive, Joyful

4 = Green – Determination, Practical, Sturdy

5 = Blue – Communicator, Simplicity, Trust

6 = Indigo – Imaginative, Independent, Intuitive

7 = Violet – Inspiring, Leader, Visionary

8 = Rose – Compassionate, Entrepreneurial, Romantic

9 = Gold – Discerning, Guiding, Wise

If you like the qualities of your colour but absolutely know you would never wear the colour, not a problem. Instead explore how you could “be your colour”. If you are Red for example, how might you be more Adventurous and Energetic? What does your colour mean to you and how will you personally express it? Maybe there’s an item of clothing which gives you a bit of a Red Rebel feeling, or is there a certain watch brand that gives you the feeling of being a Visionary Violet Leader?

The important thing is making it personal to you, therefore by choosing an item of clothing or an accessory is a subtle way of anchoring and reminding yourself of who you are from the inside out.

Your Life Path Colour is like your best friend, it walks beside you throughout your life. It doesn’t mean you have to wear it, you can if you wish, but begin to build a relationship with your colour. Explore all of its many shades and tones, some you will like, others you won’t and that’s ok, it’s a relationship that’s going to last a lifetime, so you have all the time in the world!

Do you dream of living a different life, or simply improving on the life you are already living? The answer and the solution is quite simple – add a little colour to your life.
